	as english is greatly emphasized with the rapid development of global communication, correcting the defects that exist in current education system are needed urgently. firstly, nowadays the target of our english education is to train students’ reading comprehension. it needs students gain more than 4200 words and cet4 and cet6 contributes much to it. on the other hand ,it makes the students pay more attention on the exam and promotes the trend of exam oriented education. in addition, english teaching model is not adapting to developing social needs today. the teachers could only teach grammar, translation, texts in class because of the huge number of students. they have no choice to talk to everyone .furthermore various students have to learn the same course. so a thorough reform of english education should be under way. first of all modifying and perfecting the education programs are active demand. we should translate the target from reading comprehension to listening , speaking and comprehensive ability. for most chinese students, their spoken language is poor. they can get high mark even in tofel but can not talk to foreigners fluently. we call it silent english. the integration of theory with practice in the classroom is a must way to achieve oral english teaching. second, the english teaching model should be improved. the reform should make the students study english without the limitation of time and location. and the teachers should cultivate students’ activity and creativity by internet , movies, tv news and so on. also classroom teaching is still needed. reading comprehension, grammar, translation and writing are still necessary. thirdly the nation should be responsible for the english education reform. as the baton of english education , cet4 and cet6 must keep pace with the times to accommodate to the demand of students. with the collaboration of educators and students, the reform of english education will surely yield plentiful fruits.
